Millennials & Nose Jobs

Millennials Having Fun with Selfies

Having attained the status of the most numerous generation, a new stream of potential patients aged 18 to 34 — have increasingly been visiting cosmetic plastic surgeons to see about the state of their noses.

That patient stream is overwhelmingly Millennials who are most interested in nose jobs and thenotoplasty, more commonly known as ear  pinning.

According to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS.) an industry poll was taken of 618 men about dating, workplace issues and personal appearances in a youth-driven culture.

Findings?  Thirty-one percent of Millennial males reported they are extremely likely to consider having either invasive or non-invasive cosmetic surgery.

Among that 31 percent of guys, 58 percent were from 25 to 34 years old. Thirty-four percent were from 18 to 24 years old. Both age ranges are in the millennial generation.

Perhaps another good sign took place in 2016 when the Pew Research organization revealed that 56 percent of American youth between 17 and 25 with “piercings” – in ears, noses and tongues – were asking cosmetic surgeons to repair the damage. They also wanted tattoos removed from faces and necks, all in deference to the world of job interviews and coping in America’s board rooms.

Back then, there were many Millennials who had holes in their earlobes large enough to accommodate an index finger. They also quit wearing nose rings.

And who would believe it all started with “selfie” pictures snapped by cell phone cameras? In which the nose is the most prominent feature and then shared with friends, relatives and even some strangers along the way.

Because Millennials believe wholeheartedly in sharing and social media like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and others.

The AAFPRS survey also asked why Millennial men would be motivated to undergo cosmetic surgery at such a young age. They responded:

  • Just to feel better about themselves; 41 percent
  • Looking better to please a partner; 31 percent
  • To look less stressed and tired; 31 percent
  • Remaining fresh and eager on the job, 25 percent

Millennial women reported their favorite cosmetic surgeries include breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, mommy makeovers and liposuction.
