Lower eyelid surgery, before & after

One mark of normal aging is sagging upper eyelids, making you look tired and sad. Sagging eyelids also make you older.

If your uppers are drooping over your eyes, you might be curious if your case is right for an upper eyelid lift, medically known as an upper blepharoplasty.

The procedure provides a great return for the cosmetic surgery dollar and may even be covered by your health insurance if the eyelids are completely or partially blocking reading or driving vision.

Usually, sagging upper eyelids start to show in the late 30s or early 40s. It happens because eyelid skin is paper thin and starts to stretch with passing years.  For most people, sagging upper eyelids are the first marks of normal aging. Also, the muscle that lifts and opens the eyelids – the levator muscle – loses its strength over time and does not lift the eyelid as much, making the sagging appear worse.

Want a clue how your eyelids and under-eye area might look in the future? Just look at your mom, dad and older siblings; aging that takes place around the eyes, on and below the eye is largely due to your genetics.

The upper eyelid lift is already a very popular procedure  with consumers. In 2013, the most current year for which cosmetic plastic surgery statistics exist, men and women had 216,000 upperand lower eyelid lifts, a six percent rise over 2012’s numbers. Currentliy, the eyelid lifting procedure is American’s third most popular invasive cosmetic surgery procedure.

Lower eyelid lift is a part of rejuvenation surgery known as “expression surgery.” Just as sagging upper eyelids can make you look sleepy, under eye bagging can give the impression of haggardness and sadness when that person might just be brimming with energy and cheer.

To cope, the most gifted cosmetic surgeons remove excess fat below the eyes. Both upper and lower blepharoplasties offer:

  •    Low levels of risk
  •    Very reasonable fees
  •    Quick recovery times
